Permission Requirements Checklist

Required permissions for floating window to display over WhatsApp

Display over other apps permission

This permission is required for the floating window to appear on top of WhatsApp and other apps. You'll be prompted to grant this permission when enabling the overlay feature. Navigate to Android Settings > Apps > WhatsPrivcy > Display over other apps and enable it.

Contact access permission

Required to manage and tag your contacts for privacy settings.

Notification permission

Required to send you reminders about privacy settings and new contacts.

Important: The "Display over other apps" permission is essential for the floating window feature to work properly. Without it, the overlay cannot appear on top of WhatsApp or any other applications. Make sure to enable this permission in your device settings.

Method 1: Built-in Overlay Window (Recommended)

Guided overlay checklist when activating privacy profiles

When you activate a privacy profile, WhatsPrivcy opens WhatsApp to the correct privacy screen and displays a floating overlay checklist showing exactly which contacts to exclude. When the overlay window first opens, it appears large to allow for easy viewing of contacts. Once you pinch to resize it, the window stays at 50% of the screen size, making it perfect for dragging around while still seeing all contacts in the checklist. Method 2: Android Floating Window (Alternative)

Using Android's native floating window feature

Android's native floating window feature (also called Picture-in-Picture or Pop-up view) allows WhatsPrivcy to stay open in a smaller, resizable, and movable window on top of other apps. This is perfect for managing your privacy settings while using WhatsApp. The floating window can be resized and positionedanywhere on your screen, making it easy to view your contact checklist while managing privacy settings in WhatsApp. You can drag it around and resize it as needed to see all contacts in the WhatsPrivcy checklist and checkmark them as desired.
